Lead Mechanical Engineer

Job Overview

Carries out mechanical engineering and design work for our projects for various clients across the process industries, including refining, petrochemicals, chemicals and alternative fuels. The primary focus of the position will be to carry out detailed mechanical engineering independently. Works closely within interdisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical datasheets from available process information

  • Develop equipment requisitions

  • Perform technical evaluation of bids and recommend best value design which meets client requirements for operability, reliability, maintainability, and safety.

  • Vendor drawing and document reviews

  • Create and maintain piping specifications

  • Perform piping stress analysis

  • Develop equipment lists and specialty item list

  • Perform basic calculations for the sizing of equipment

  • P&ID updates for mechanical equipment

  • Interact directly with Clients

  • Develop preliminary layouts and guide layout engineer in the layout requirements for a project

  • Interact with 3rd parties such as equipment suppliers

  • Work on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects

  • Manage the scope of the project work, address scope and work changes, adjust the project deliverables as necessary, and complete the project work based on the budget and schedule time frame

  • Serve as Project Lead for single-discipline projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, making staffing recommendations, and checking drawings

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree with mechanical experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience as a mechanical engineer in refining, chemical processing or alternative energy

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of ASME standards, specifically Sect VIII and B31.3

  • Knowledge of API standards (610, 660 and 661)

  • Prior experience in development of equipment specifications and layout requirements

  • Desire and willingness to conduct field investigations and walk downs in plant environment

  • Solid Microsoft Office Skills

  • Must have permanent work authorization in the US

Preferred Requirements

  • Working knowledge of process equipment

  • Working knowledge of process instrumentation

  • Experience with static equipment design software (Compress, PV Elite or similar)

  • Strong working knowledge of heat transfer equipment

  • Experience with purchasing packaged equipment and managing interfaces

  • Rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, agitators, centrifuges)

  • Fire protection experience

  • HVAC design and specification

  • Caesar II experience

  • Fusion 360 experience

  • Ability to multitask and organize for project efficiency

  • Basic experience with AutoCAD, Plant 3D and Navisworks

  • PE license in the state of Illinois

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

​

Schedule: 8-hour shift, Monday to Friday

​

Ability to commute/relocate: Lisle, IL 60532, or Palatine, IL 60074

​

License/Certification: PMP (Preferred)
